3 Façades
This work proposes to intervene in a fragile context such as the city of Florence. A completion of unfinished façades which characterizes three of the main religious buildings: San Lorenzo, Santa Maria del Carmine, San Frediano in Cestello.
It is not an aesthetic issue but it is a matter of raison d’être of those places that today are relegate in a urban limbo.
A simple restoration or a stylistic design would be useless and weak over the time. These proposals are consequent to a reading of the economical, political, social and artistic history of the city.
Nowadays it is not possible to build expensive projects but it is even more necessary to connect again these churches to their public spaces.
The new facades should be designed as true architectures capable of giving new arrangements inside the magmatic fabric of the city.
A critical understanding of unsolved ambiguities developed over the time which have led to the loss of the public nature of outer spaces.
The three façades overturn the weaknesses of the squares and change the perception and the use of it. A project able to solve the decadence which influences the social growth of these parts of the city and changes these in seedy parking lots or in a turistic market.
