Shoah Memorial
Shoah as an act of annihilation, a break and limit in the european history, an attempt to eradicate from the world the concept of man.
A memorial as an element of disjunction, a space where it is possible to lose own certainties, a progressive cancellation of the individual, where visitors can reflect in a personal and introspective ceremony.
A wall as an element of division, isolation, inequality.
This proposal is developed as an intersection between two enclosed paths (lenghth 55 m, width 1,7 m with an inner space of 1,5 m): the first one alligned to ventilation towers which is connecting via Matteotti to via dè Carracci and the second one perpendicular which is visually connected with the railway and the city of Bologna.
The chosen shape support structurally the pavillion without breaking and attaching the existing platform, it gives the possibility to develop the same hight of ventilation towers and it creates a sharp division of the square in four sections: two opened to the context and two intimate spaces on the backside where organise cultural activities (concerts, plays, conferences, art exhibitions).
An intervention which reveals and integrates the qualities of the existing borders and it asserts the new traced limit as an architecture in itself, as a condition and spatial element in which highlight the identity of a tragedy and give new order to square’ space.
