Glass in the park
Järfälla login gate competition, shortlisted project | Stockholm, Sweden
A gate is essentially a threshold, and the more it is short, the less time is required to cross it. The main aim is giving people more time to overstep the gate, and have the opportunity to enjoy the walking and socializing in this new ‘inbetween’space .
The project is inspired by the Kolonilotter, composed by several connected modular houses, that grant to the people a confortable space where to walk, sit, stay, read a book, meet people. The modules are “greenhouses” made with a wooden frame and polycarbonate panels, economic materials, fully recyclable and at the same time highly impact resistant.
The time to overstep a gate is 1 second. The time to overstep more gates is longer. Gate repetition shapes a single house. Lot of houses for a lot of people. The translation of the blocks shapes a path. Blocks orientation defines different functions.
Snowy days - The greenhouses protect from the colder temperatures, creating a room for socializing in the park, even in the winter.
Rainy days - The houses have a wooden structure; the coating is made of polycarbonate panels, that are removable, in order to open the houses during the warmer season and allow natural ventilation inside, repairing at the same time from the rain.
