THE PALATINE PYRAMID, Rome, 2001
The project has the purpose of celebrating the Rome mythical foundation and also its empire, evoking the originary “Roma quadrata” and, at the same time, the Emperors palace, of which only remain some ruins. The wish to limit to a minimum the impact with an archaeological site of such a value, led to the form of a reversed pyramid, that would touch it with its vertex only. The ancient palace is brought back to life by means of the reconstruction of some elements and of various mirror effects. Its image is integrated in the technological and futuristic building, together with other features, suggesting the shapes of a vessel and of a large sail, oriented towards the East.
The building can be used as a museum and an university, including a large auditorium, but its very destination is for a new and ideal Rome, of which it intends to be the announcement and the temple.
