"Magasin des Archives"
Center of conservation of North departmental archives
Besides its innovative nature of positive energy building, the program is a powerful conservation tool as the books and the plans kept in the building are valuable public assets. It was thus built with a high quality of distribution and a flawless functionality
The reorganization of the site has linked the existing buildings to the central aisle which thus becomes a meeting place. The restructuring of the departmental archives site improves the functioning of the existing block.
Located behind the existing building of offices, the stores form an imposing and homogeneous construction of seven levels, perceived both from the Boulevard de Metz and the street of St. Bernard.
Covered with a mesh made from perforated stainless steel, the building reflects the city lights through a leaf motif inspired by a papyrus.
Offices make a transition between the existing building and the storage of archives. They are developed around small interior patios that let the light in and provide a quiet working environment.
Ultra efficient and innovative, this positive energy building is as hermetic as a thermos bottle. Its performances are mainly due to the composition of the walls, the drying system (the first in France) and the heater by cogeneration, more energy efficient. Photovoltaic panels are installed on the roof and cover the building’s needs in energy.
The sobriety of its facades is made to avoid any communication about its energy performance. Surely the building produces energy, but above all, it stores archives!
