H50 is an apartment block located in Petralona, a crowded, low height building and the oldest district of Athens. It is built in a 118 m2 plot close to “Filopappou hill”, a well-known archaeological Park of Athens. H50 is consisted of two storey houses, 105 m2 each, and a roof garden. The main entrance of the block is accessible through an open free space, “pilotis”, at the ground level.
The main concept was the creation of a monolithic sculpture, influenced by the rough pieces of marble. Therefore, the block is formed by an interchange between the flat triangular and curved faces. These faces are further processed on their texture creating a contrast between smooth and shiny surfaces and the rough, natural texture of the raw marble.
The patios are mounted at the southeast side of the plot, where all the apartments are opened. Metal folding shades protect the patios and the apartments from the sun, as well as, they emphasize the monolithic aspect of the block and the required privacy of the residents.
