Gatocan
In this project of expansion of the Animal Protection Association Gatocan there is a key word: economy.
According to the dictionnary, economy is defined, among other meanings, as follows:
"Careful management of available resources."
In this project, scarce resources make it necessary to use this concept of economy, understood not only as an economic amount, but as a process of containment, and to bring the problem to the essential. The containment makes the elements used very effective and expressive at the same time, and thus generate an economic system.
In the plot there was already a building with office functions and kennels for the animals, but it was necessary to increase the complex in 20 kennels plus. To this end, two new buildings of different sizes were arranged, one of 9 and another of 11 receptacles to house the homeless dogs. These pieces are placed in the terrain, adapting to its topography and dividing the plot into bordered areas so that the dogs do not have conflicts.
We rely on the premise of repetition to design the new kennels. Each one has a covered space and another one outdoors, a door for the staff access and one for the animals passage. The constructive sincerity of the materials is also based on economy, we used split grooved block for the enclosure, which reproduces the repetition of the trees by which the intervention is surrounded, concrete block for the partitions, the wood for the trusses that support the covered area and the minionda veneer for the cover, which reflects the blue sky.
The inhabitants seem to be happy with the change, or at least they have not complained yet.
In short, sincerity, repetition and economy.
