Hotel Puerta América, Marmo Bar
The Hotel Silken Puerta América in Madrid is an innovative project that involved numerous architects and designers. Marc Newson designed the interior of the marmo bar.
It is based on a very American concept: to see and to be seen. The whole bar can be seen from the reception area thanks to the giant glass entrance door. One of the delights of this bar, designed by Marc Newson, is its height, enhanced by 400 super-thi aluminium bearns almost seven metres tall, with a five-centimetre gap between them. They are specially arranged to form a vertical line that magnifies the length of the bar, as wee as its depth and rhythm.
The bar is a single 8.25 metre ling unit made of white Statuario Venato marble from the Carrara quarries, the original piece weiging at around six tonnes. Due to its weight and size, this piece was the first to be installed in the htoel, even before the façade. On either side Newson has reated two openings reserved for tranquility and privacy with white leader seats. The tables are also mounted onto a leather platfrorm. The Bardillo Imperiale grey marble of the floor is polished to a mirror-like finish. The idea of seeing and being seen is implemented here again with the bar wall leading to the outdoor terrace made entirely of glass.
