The new lighthouse art hotel is situated in the serene landscape of the natural reserve of Capo Murro di Porco e Penisola di Maddalena.
We believe that the new intervention must be as most silent as possible.
It is not an iconic building.
It does not want to celebrate itself but its surrounding.
Its shape has been gently modified by the landscape and the coastline, looking for amplifying the view toward the sea and highlighting the presence of the lighthouse.
At the same time we were aware that the new building must be able to somehow resist to this wild and often inhospitable natural environment of the Mediterranean coast.
The outside is a simple white wall, which protects from the frequent wind , and were a simple break generates the entrance inviting the guests to the inside.
What appears from the outside a simple wall in reality accommodates all the spaces and the rooms of the new hotel generating a central patio.
A new public space that can accommodates different uses, from where always perceive the presence of the lighthouse behind it.
Exhibition spaces, classrooms, ateliers and a conference hall are distributed in a loop around the central courtyard that gathers the artists community offering to a city of arts like Syracuse a new space for every sort of event.
Eventually in the courtyard a room offers a quite and silent place where people can enjoy the shadow listening to the sound of the sea embraced by the blue tiles walls.
The existing lighthouse of Murro di Porco has been carefully renovate restoring the original appearance.
According to its artistic and architectural value we minimized the internal modifications to create space to accomodate a visitor center for the natural reserve of Capo Murro di Porco e Penisola di Maddalena.
It accommodates space for a small exhibition, and classrooms where to learn more about its historical value.
