Zentrales Kunstdepot Freiburg
The Central Art Depot Freiburg is a simple "warehouse" for art. The precious objects, which are stored here, neither light may still endure fluctuating temperatures or changing humidity.
You need large, geometrically simple rooms and a healthy climate. The building is virtually a large shelter. Simple geometry, gable roof, a few openings. Economical in terms of costs, the use of resources and energy consumption (passive house). Architecture that is to remain inconspicuous.
Only upon closer inspection, a lighter and more complex wall structure seen as the functional clothing wraps around the building. The internal construction is solid as a regulating reservoir for a uniformly stable climate. The outer shell of polycarbonate shafts protects the wood of the underlying construction planes from the weather. They revealed through their diffuse transparency the complexity of contemporary innovative facade constructions.
