BBPR invasion I, II, III
Is Torre Velasca an alien?
I. Alien vs BBPRedator
II. 1957, alarm in Milan
III. The Battle of Rotterdam
Torre Velasca is the most representative monument of a period of transition, where Ernesto Nathan Rogers, director of Casabella magazine, was a reference point for that part of the disciplinary culture that was searching the overcoming of rationalism, ferrying that legacy of European masters to a new attitude towards the environment and history.
The profile of the tower is the result of a long study that finds its origins in the research of functional responses to the constriction. The Velasca wanted to be a modern quotation of Filarete's tower of Castello Sforzesco.
The tower is the invention of a new architecture. It was the first skyscraper designed with the mushroom shape, no one before had ever designed a building like that.
So, the drawings are a free interpretation of how inhabitants of Milan could be felt just completed the construction of the tower in 1957: they may have felt threatened by an alien and frightened by a possible future invasion.
The invasion has happened and has spread throughout Europe to Rotterdam.
Who's next?
Today is still seen like an alien? Or simply as an ugly building? Or is it a masterpiece of modern architecture?
