El Gran Vidrio
It’s through Conservation, restoration and reconstruction of the property included in the "Catalogue of Real Estate and Heritage Sites City of Cordoba" how the Restaurant and Gallery "El Gran Vidrio" is proposed.
A cylindrical and significant volume that gives the corner of H. Primo and Jujuy a unique and valued presence here in Cordoba.
The premise was to use, restore and adapt the existing building to a new activity. A building dated since the beginning of the `40, and which’s area is known for its large car dealerships.
Initially we intervened on the existing circular volume and the dry plaza, so that later we could incorporate the rest of the space destined for a Restaurant and Gallery.
The main idea for the exterior space was to create a green area, a ¨plaza¨ which would isolate itself visually and acoustically from the constant noise and movement due to the highly transited streets. This space is defined by its large green wall full of aromatic plants, tables surrounded by fast growing native trees (cina cina) to offer shade on the high summer temperatures here in Cordoba.
The lounge of the restaurant itself has high ceilings, general lighting through lamps and recycled antique chandeliers, and spot lighting with LED to shower the walls full of unique art work.
The furnisher, tables, bar, shelves, dressers are also recycled and restored.
All the great openings that surround the restaurant are covered with curtains of lightweight fabric so they have enough permeability to allow sunlight bathe the interior space, thus creating an intimate and relaxing atmosphere.
As for the washrooms, they are designed with the premise of generating a fusion between past and present by using antique and modern materials with fine detailing.
The kitchen is fitted with latest technology equipment and designed to have independent routs to access both lounge and plaza.
The gallery is an open space for production, sale and contemporary art exhibitions. This includes annual presentations that relates to alternative experimentations.
El Gran Vidrio Works with emerging and professional artists that look to present projects that question, challenges and values contemporary issues.
The name, The Large Glass, is inspired by one of the most important works of contemporary art in the world "The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even" or "The Large Glass", by French artist Marcel Duchamp. Duchamp, whose work still has a huge and influential mark on today’s contemporary art.
