Peking, China, gallery, design 2010, completion 2011-2012
A gallery and villa in Beijing. The CCC in Beijing is the name of a private gallery of a married couple – painters living in Beijing.
The building is in a fast developing district of artist. The assignment was for a very narrow site and the task was to resolve design for the MAIN FAÇADE in the beginning. During the course of work on the project the assignment increased to include the whole building. This three-storey building with the technical facilities, studios for rent, a flat, and the owner’s studio. The structure of the building is typical for Chinese historical buildings, with an atrium. An opening in the main façade made according to the feng-shui principles brings affluence and prosperity. The villa of Mrs Panxia is close to the CCC gallery. The task was once again the design of façade at the beginning that later developed into a design of the whole house while keeping the original ground plan shape. The businesswoman, who lives with her husband and two children, had her own ideas about the function and furnishing o the house. Both these Beijing buildings use traditional materials, grey clay fired brick the same manner as the masterpiece of Czech baroque, familiar to me. Both buildings carry formal and structural references to traditional Chinese architecture
