Hanyang University Fabrication Lab with rhythmic metal boxes. Korea
A Former lecture room and a hall have been jointly converted into a fabrication lab in Hanyang University Erica Campus in Ansan, South Korea by a collaboration of design eu and Wonder Architects.
The new fabrication lab is composed of four parts ; a fabrication room, 2 machine rooms(for CNC milling and laser cutting each), a photo studio and a lounge.
All furniture are newly designed and a series of steel boxes was conceived as shelves for exhibition and featured wall itself.
The parallelogram-shaped lounge chairs are all movable which allows to make various formations for the purpose of different activities.
The steel-boxes featured shelves have been designed with 3 simple rules which give scenic rhythms and different looks in accordance with the movement of natural light. The 3 simple rules for the design of steel shelves are 4 different size in depth , 4 different angles in vertical alignment and shifted combination of the single shelf units.
