Solo House
In the Matarraña region, two hours south of Barcelona, the French developer Christian Bourdais has initiated the project Solo Houses. On the grounds of an extensive natural park international architects are given the opportunity to design experimental holiday homes with no constraints besides budget. The first house that has been realised is Solo Pezo designed by the Chilean studio Pezo von Ellrichshausen Architects: a symmetrical concrete sculpture supported by a mighty column hovers two floors above the ground.
A spiral staircase inside the windowless base leads to the cantilevered main floor, that features a white tiled patio with a pool in its centre. The living rooms are arranged strictly symmetrical around the patio. The rooms can be transformed into terraces, because they have exterior glass walls that can be opened completely. The minimalist furnishing enhances the transparent, airy ambience. Nothing distracts from the spectacular panoramic views of the mountain and the forests.
