Meno di 31 - KALEIDO
Kaleido is a panoramic telescope, a domestic space that becomes a refuge where the guardian can experience, as in a panopticon, a variety of visuals: the villa, the highway and the surrounding park.
This competition demands the design of a house of 80 m², meant to be dwelled by the guardian of Villa Belpoggio-Baciocchi's park, in Bologna.
The house leans on the sloped ground, whose inclination becomes an opportunity to create a basement compartment as well as to develop enough height to offer a privileged viewpoint on the rooftop.
On the northern front, externally, the terrace is attainable trough a metal staircase, by means of which it is possible to access the house by a secondary entry.
The front facing south hides one almost entirely glazed filter space that establishes a direct relation with the surrounding garden, ensuring continuity between the inside and the outside of the residence.
The optimal exposure also allows to passively profit by the sunlight to favor the indoor climate control, both during summer and winter.
The external facade is coated by a skin of majolica, whose embossed hexagonal shape creates a changing play of light, refracting the light that slips through the leaves of the luxurious vegetation thereabout.
The texture rarefies turning around the building, until it disappears entirely on the eastern façade, simply treated with white plaster.
The white facade becomes a screen on which the shadows of the near red oaks are projected. Special consideration has been given to them during the development of the project. Irregular openings of squared shape characterise the elevations, reflecting the internal layout.
