Swarovski Perspectives
Perspectives, the luminously beautiful art work created by leading minimalist designer John Pawson for Swarovski.
Perspectives by John Pawson
Creativity, science, the latest technology, and precise craftsmanship coalesce in John Pawson’s installation Perspectives. The spectacular reflective work was first installed in the Geometric Staircase of St Paul's Cathedral for the 2011 London Design Festival. It moved to the Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice as part of the 55th international art exhibition La Biennale di Venezia. In the end it was shown in the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien during the Wien Design Week. The unique lens forms a visual contrast to the space, yet insinuates itself perfectly into the overall image. Thus, it creates an unusual view of seemingly familiar architecture.
John Pawson commented: “The focus of the work has never been about the physical piece itself so much as how this object enables people to see in a different way.”
Perspectives is a reflective artwork featuring a 40cm concave meniscus crystal lens — the largest Swarovski has ever created – placed on a seamless mirrored steel hemisphere. Designed to reflect and magnify the beauty of its surroundings.
