Kosenda Hotel
Located in the center of Jakarta’s density, Kosenda Hotel comes with the concept of simplicity and local uniqueness of Betawi, making it stand out from the glamour vicinity. On a very expensive and limited area of 518 m², Kosenda Hotel demands highly complex functional requirements. Kosenda Hotel has free space of 1,5 meter from each side of neighborhood as the use of lighting, air circulation, noise buffers, and infiltration of rain, in the midst of the high-rise buildings nearby. On the free space between Kosenda and neighbour walls, the existing wall remains as it is, unfinished, and painted by on with mural artwork.
The mural tells the story of Jakarta with its dynamic and activities such as steet vendors, signature public transportation such as kopaja, bajaj, bemo, and also the former Jakarta governor and deputy governor, Joko Widodo and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama pictured while conducting speech. The main architectural character of Kosenda Hotel is inspired by the Betawi’s traditional house formation – the diamond filigree applied as the openings and ceilings in a modern way – with full consideration of the environmental condition and response of the city, reinforcing its urban character. The pond is also an important element of the building that will be in both the outdoor and indoor building so as to create a comfortable atmosphere. As in the inside, the pond also be used for the wooden water feature. 6 floors void height lets the sunlight penetrate until the ground floor of the building, which lets each floors also connecting visually.
The connecting bridge on the void as the room entrance painted on jengki colors that was popular such as yellow, orange, blue and green. The void walls that arise straight from the first floor until rooftop covered by the old teak wood installation that gathered from several places in East Java. There are also several spider artwork that sticks to the void walls as one of the artwork. The asymmetric space layout and different floor heights of the building generate more lively unpredictable space. Concentrating on urban design, Kosenda Hotel upholds sustainability by applying a void of six stories as the natural lighting of the corridor, as well as reusing teak as the interior elements. From the top floor of Kosenda Hotel, we can see the face of Jakarta city as a contradiction between high rises building and the dense settlements that evolve on the other side.
