The owners wanted to live in a smaller house and closer to the town centre. A new home was built on the wide plot of an old post-war house. The concern to keep everything on the ground floor resulted in a U-shaped plan organized around a patio. In this way, the afternoon and evening sun are brought deep into the house.
On the first floor there are two guest rooms for the children and grandchildren and a workspace. Due to the configuration of the volumes there is a constant balance from any position between the lower part (single storey) and the upper part (ground and first floor). In this way, the impact to the neighbour houses is minimized. This is supported by the materialisation of basic but sharp detailed brick masonry, as the imagination of a supporting structure…
