Morro do Querosene House
A large portion of the site lie three meters below street level and its typical configuration (10m x 40m) enabled the design of a large open space that is both transparent and private. This space is defined by two parallel structures: a wall containing 7,500 books and a three-story block with all bedrooms and services. To access the book wall one should walk through metal platforms placed in an interleaved manner.
The topographic difference between street level and the house’s ground level allows great views of the distant landscape through the space. This house adopts simple constructive solutions, reducing tectonic actions. The structure is done by masonry walls and reinforced concrete. Installations are apparent and performed without interference. The finishes are simple: concrete blocks, glass and books.
