Contemporary Scottish Cottage Refurbishment
Heath Cottage, in the country around 1 hours drive from Aberdeen, is a contemporary interiors project, inside the shell of a traditional stone house, they style of which is very common to North-East Scotland.
The adjacent images showing the house prior to commencement of the works, which allowed the house to be better aligned with modern living, and created a light interior with the illusion of space.
In addition to making a large glazed intervention in the stone gable, the internal arrangement of the ground floor was revised, to allow modern open-plan living within the traditional cottage.
White wooden lining and a white painted floor help make the space light and allow all spaces to flow together. A wood-burning stove remains the focal point of the living area, whilst the open plan kitchen/dining space has a traditional range cooker as it’s centrepiece.
Birch faced plywood is used in various places throughout the house, from the large door separating the office from the main space, to the bathroom where a waterproof treatment allows the timber to be a main feature, when combined with geometric print concrete tiles.
