Alpenmilchzentrale. Wien
The Alpenmilchzentrale - formerly a traditional Viennese industry operating in a dense Wilhelminian block - is one of the numerous urban production sites of Vienna. Planned to be redeveloped since the 1980s, the milk factory was converted in a workshop space creating an inventory of surprising opportunities and contradictory idiosyncrasies.
The core of the new program was the exhibition and events center, meant for activities related to contemporary art, design, popular culture, and media. Located at the ground and first floors, it stretches over several new wings revealing various upheavals in the history of the plant. A new independent access and several circulation paths link the new rooms in the wings to the cultural center.
