KAA Restaurant
In one of the busiest streets of São Paulo the white façade of Kaa restaurant hides a small Oasis within the city. The plot is deep and shallow, generating a simple layout with lounge and bar at the front, tables and kitchen at the back of the restaurant. The mezzanine is occupied by toilets and a dining space.
A large pool welcomes visitors, accentuating the serenity of the ambient. The green wall with over 7000 tropical plants dominates the side of the restaurant. A retractable translucent roof allows natural lighting. On the left size the wooden ceiling under the mezzanine contrasts with the double height in front of the green wall.
Warm and discrete materials reinforce the intimate atmosphere by using wood, ceramics and neutral colors. Most of the furniture was designed by the Studio, such as the reinterpretation of the famous Barcelona chair.
The Brazilian spirit is present by the ludic contrast between contemporary materials and local elements such as straw and indigenous artifacts. The rationality of the project is clearly represented by the rhythm in the distribution of the space, following the structure and taking advantage of the singular proportions of the building.
Kaa restaurant was awarded with the Best restaurant design of the year 2010 by Wallpaper Magazine.
