Re-Source - Bio-Fuel generating station
In order to serve the environmental cause and to use the economical potential of the sea, we chose to work on the Port, hot spot of imbalances to the interactions between Humanity and the Sea.
The micro-algae, sustainable natural resource, is the main component of the Bio-fuel 3rd generation. We have come up with a Bio-fuel generating station replicable from port to port. These structures offer an eco-production for bio-fuel, which would be distributed in-situ. To achieve an autonomous and perpetual fabrication, the factory is built as a giant siphon which allows the fluides to flow without prior energy input.
The structure is located on the main dyke and acts as a center of attraction : each of the stations hosts a joint academic and leisure program. Re-source bases include an academic research center and a resort in addition to the fueling station.
Re-Source is an innovative proposal to the production of Bio-fuel 3rd generation. It o ers an economic hub based on Micro - Algae resource, aware and respectful of environmental issues.
We know today how to benefit from the sea and oceans. But we still neglect the fatal effects of our activities on this precious environment.
The marine space offers us quantities of food, spaces of international exchanges and other tourist activities:
it is an economy resource.
How to generate a protective economy of the oceans?
The density of maritim flow creates a massiv consomation of energy. Nowadays, the oil used by the international fleets is exclusively a deriv from petroleum.
The fabrication and uses of oil cause an important polution of the air and go to the global warming. The emission of CO2 are responsible of acidification and degradation of oceans.
Barbour areas are the contact point of unstable interactions between human and sea: in consequence they will be our intervention place.
We are at the starting point of a energetic revolution.
We know the existence of Bio-fuel, less polluting but still hard to create for an industrial operation.
Our study has been organized around toward one goal: producing industrially Bio-fuel in an energetic dynamic, respectful to the environment.
We treated the harbour as a sick organism. An architectural and scientific operation will be proposed.
We hope to participate into the creation of a new balance between humans and seas, creating an economic system around a Holistic cycle.
Re-Source will be a signal project like the headlight, as before, used to be, with an important identity in harbour. It takes place on a sea wall near the exit of harbor areas and creates an attractive promenade for visitors.
To access to the station, boats can also berth to the platform designed for it.
There are two ways to supply the Bio-fuel. One provision platform designed for boats going to the sea.
Transfert boats perform lightning trip between port and station in order to provide Bio-fuel to boats that can not access to Re-Source.
Research permit to discover a new resource able to take over fossil energies: Micro- algaes.
Ever-present in the sea and ocean waters, these microscopic elements duplicate themselves endlessly. They eat CO2 and sunlight to grow up and develop.
The Micro-algae’s farming requires few resources however it is non-polluting. Lipids in Micro-algaes are the principal ingredient called Bio- fuel of third Generation.
The objective of our project is to produce Bio-fuel in a continuous and autonomous way. The circulation of the fluids influences the architecture of the project.
Our strategy is based on the siphon device, allowing the fluids to circulate without energy contributions. The mechanism will pull, in a single way, the fluids in the various steps of the Bio fuel production. The water of harbors, concentrated in Micro-algaes and polluted, will be the source of the manufacturing cycle.
The Re-Source project, duplicable, based in harbour cities, will develop a new economy around the Bio-fuel. It will take care of production and distribution of this energy. This in-situ, fast and permanent device will have a depolluting action on harbours.
Being at the beginning of this energy revolution, every station will welcome a mixed program, connected to the sea. Activities of ecological tourism, research and university centers and the fuel factory are going to live in the same structure.
Micro-algae’s farming tanks of Micro-algaes are the place of experiments for the university and research centers.
This way of farming allows to clean up the water of the harbour, polluted by the repeated passages of boats. Furthermore, the gas exchanges of the farming tanks increase and preserve the aquatic ecosystem.
Re-Source is a building defined by a repetition of a structural 2.5 meters wide and 190 meters long module. A rythm is created by association of full and voided slices. The passage of Micro-algaes partially hides the facade.
Like a wave above the existing sea wall, the project creates a physical link between the harbour, Humans and sea.
The pedestrians reach the station by the sea wall. The building is an attraction at the end of a walk around of the harbour. it also offers a lot of platforms for boats.
The resupplying is made in the passage at the end of the sea wall along platforms.
The two last levels welcome an entertainment center. Accessible by funiculars, it takes a shape of a market hall which covers several business places. It is the privileged living space of the station.
The hall is divided by a big open-air garden. There are few spaces with double height. They give crossing spaces framing views on the horizon and the city.
Re-Source is an innovative proposal for a viable development of the third Bio-Fuel generation. It optimizes the economic and energy problematics:
- Decrease of the fuel transport
- Autonomy of the farming process
- Economic development This structure would may change the energy consumptions on the scale of world sea traffic.
The first intention fo the project is to serve in a architecture and scientific gesture, a human and ecological cause.
His modular, duplicable in various cities and adaptable character gives to Re-Source an international identity.
