Expansion of the Carabinieri Station in Saluzzo
The project was drawn up following the award of a tender-based curricula – it was necessary to have carried out similar works - and financial offer.
The selection, not yet fully taken over the crisis of these years was fair based on a fall of about 30%. What had been positively assessed was the employment history and experience with the design of the barracks of Trieste, of Tavagnacco Feletto Umberto (UD) and Muggia (left, the latter, on the card).
The theme, however, was new.
Unlike previous projects, it was not to create a new building at hall, but to work on an existing building. Extending it; the existing building was not historic, but established within the hostorical town of the city of Saluzzo in Piemonte.
The existing building previously raised, widened and equipped had been sold to the City in 1967 to host the Carabinieri of Saluzzo.
The multi-storey building was characterized by a masonry brick and a pitched roof that characterized a factory rather trivial and poor from the architectural point of view, due, typologically, to a residential building.
Given the limited relevance of the existing buildings, the project was conceived as an a "solo", while confronting planimetrically, with reference to the existing plant and with the geometry of the lot.
The expansion of the Carabinieri barracks of Saluzzo has been achieved by building adjacent to the existing building to a new building at "L" of the height of two floors.
The new building hosts the part of the barracks designed for residential purposes. On the first floor five bedrooms with two beds each have been realized, inclusive of toilet with shower inside, and the construction of a common laundry to the rooms.
The floor below rather than in a small dressing room with its toilet, a dining hall was built with a kitchen and warehouse which if necessary can be used as a meeting room.
The new wing of the building looking the way Don Bosco (the road below the main entrance to the military zone) was made based on the alignment of the existing buildings.
It was retained a direct access on via Don Bosco, through the implementation of a passage on the ground floor.
In the basement has been realized an archive/warehouse alongside the existing garage.
The structure was built entirely of reinforced concrete (foundations, pillars, solid slabs, etc.).
And covered in sheet metal painted in green, a sort of copper coating tending to "camouflage" a "fortress". A building for reassuring solidity, characterized by a texture of facade in vertical courses of different width, for dynamize the front.
So for the misalignment of the holes door/window, almost slits, misaligned to characterize contemporary geometries.
A small object in the contemporary historical Saluzzo.
