SUPRESIÓN DE BARRERAS ARQUITECTÓNICAS
Nowadays, the society has, fortunately, become more aware of the need to remove the architectural barriers that exist in our cities. However, a large number of residential buildings still lack lifts or routes of access to reach them.
During the refurbishing process of this type of buildings, we received the suggestion of having access to the lift, which was located on a mezzanine floor, of a building, without using stairs.
After evaluating all the place conditions, we found that the only possible solution was the one we carried out. This solution consisted in lengthening the access from the ground floor to the lift by building a gentle ramp, and, at the same time, reducing the space before the existing stairs.
Due to the small width of the entrance hall of the building, we decided to take advantage of the whole existing headroom to make the space look bigger. Likewise, we suggested dividing the space in three sectors, differentiated by means of the use of different materials.
The access to the entrance hall of the building in the first sector, the entrance hall in the second sector and the third sector in which you can find the three new facilities refurbished: stairs, ramp and mailboxes.
After making these decisions, the three main materials of the project were distributed: ceramic tiles of 50 x 100 cm , sucupira wood and coir doormat.
The staircase fits in the entrance hall as a freestanding and lightweight element, made of a metal structure and a glass railing.
A built-in lighting system, which matches the different sectors to the entrance hall of the building, gives it a touch of refined taste not changing the essence of a place which is the first and the last contact of the visitor or resident with the building.
