In designing the space, I wanted the restaurant to have two atmospheres - open and airy during the day and intimate by night.
To create a sense of occasion, I placed a roof shape over the dining area and then folded it back up over the kitchen.
The room has a huge double bay window and because it lies on an axis with the pedestrian crossing, an amazingly direct relationship to the street. At night, the interior has a lantern like quality.
The bar is made of Sycamore and seats ten. The floor is Oak laid diagonally. The walls are light grey Valchromat (through coloured MDF), which has a clear matte seal to preserve its texture. Bar stools have cork seats. Globe polycarbonate lights are suspended from the fold lines of the ceiling, whilst the edges of the room are illuminated with concealed LED lighting.
