In this construction, the issue of sustainability has been approached in different scales and with each other interconnected issues: the relationship with the landscape and its history, biodiversity, vegetation, use of renewable resources, energy conservation and water resources.
In terms of settlement, the goal of the project was to establish a harmonious relationship with the rural landscape of the Apennines through the available volume and the use of critical materials, such as stone and wood, which refer to the tradition of the place .
The park surrounding the buildings helps integration with agricultural areas through the use of native trees, oaks, ash, flowering ash, maples, which characterize the agricultural landscape of hills. In addition to these were provided for a series of mixed hedges shrubs that provide ecological integration thanks to the diversity of the vegetation.
The building, which incorporates planimetrically the type of the farm buildings, performs many functions with a high degree of flexibility of use: garage, playground, residence, carpentry workshop, deposits. From the energy point of view the large surface of the cover has been entirely used for the placement of a photovoltaic system composed of panels (192 to 248 w) integrated to a storage system with batteries placed in the basement that ensure the supply of 96 Kw. The use of a heat pump for the production of heating and cooling makes it completely self-sufficient from the point of view of the energy and in part also the main dwelling to which the plant is connected. The energy produced is also used for charging of the two electric cars available for the families.
In the basement, beyond a deposit, an accumulation of rain waternhas been provided with a capacity of 400 cubic meters. The water is used for irrigation of the large surface park area that surrounds the buildings.
The structure of the building is entirely in reinforced concrete for underground parts, while the upper floor has characterized by the use of a mixture of steel and X-Lam wood panels. The casing is made of wooden walls, rock wool insulation and exterior cladding stone veneer and boards in larch; the part used as a garage is surrounded by glass walls that guarantee a Ug. S1 = {1.0}
For the isolation of the cover, with steel supporting structure and X-Lam panels, sheets of composite material with heat-reflecting thickness of 2 cm were used.
