A restaurant & lounge beyond the time, with a dramatic view on Piazza del Duomo and its magnificent cathedral.
Terrazza Duomo 21 is a 290 meter squares restaurant and lounge bar, with a 100 meter squares terrace on the left side of the triumph arch shaped entrance to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II monumental complex. The terrace offers a dramatic view on a unique ensamble of simbolic buildings and monuments of the city, like the Duomo, Palazzo Reale, Museo del ‘900 at the Arengario, and Torre Velasca above all.
The interior spaces of the noble floor of Duomo 21 were renovated in 2014, to be the lounge access at the headquarters of the World Expo Commissionary Club (Wecc), in occasion of Expo Milan 2015. Just before the beginning of the universal exposition, it was decided to rearrange these spaces in order to get a larger lounge bar and a gourmet restaurant, and take advantage of the location for exclusive celebrations, official events and corporate incentives.
The project required a substantial reorganization and restyling of the interiors, mainly focused on the preservation of structural lay-out of the historic building. For this reason all new internal partitions consist in removable furniture especifically designed for the purpose. In less than two months were realized all plants adaptations, lighting installations, decorations and carpentery works for reception area, the centric bar, bottlers and shelf units for food & beverage products, designed to hide from guest’s view the flows of staff and supplies in and out from kitchen and bar.
Surfaces have been completely renovated according to a careful selection of colors and textures, to make immediately recognizable the identity of the new function, and emotional relations with the symbolic charge of the historic environment. Hence the use of burnt oak for the floor, matt black matched to copper and bronze special finishes for almost all the carpentery works, a black processed travertino painture for main walls, in contrast with silver silk special finishes for walls and ceilings, and white colored back-lights, coming out from frosted glass frames in the furniture.
