Designed architecture, urban plan, and strategy of Commode Bondy applies few different methods for bringing the canal and its surrounding area back to people and the city, but also improving attractiveness of the place that have great connection with Paris. Canal and its ‘endlessness’ fits in perfectly well with the main topic that is- adaptability.
In Bondy, near Paris, along canal Ourcq, ‘life’ does not exist. Lack of proper functional- social- spatial relations, led to abandoning area of great ‘city’ potential. For many years there were attempts to find a solution for keeping big scale commercial service function, but at the same time including canal banks in social- recreational life and civil awareness. Given current trends and theories in urban- architectural design, and the problem that XXI century cities face, methods for finding solutions by cooperation on the level of authorities, public, public investors, private investors and urbanists or architects, are looked for.
Revitalization of French Île de Nantes, and German port Rheinauhafen, are good examples to show that it is possible to manage economically- long term effective strategy of building the city. That needs in spatial and regional planning from the very beginning to undertake social and design initiatives and engagement of various ‘actors’. Designed solution is adaptable, flexible and involves all the city users in its reinventing. Commode architecture is designed.
