RESTING WITH THE BISONS Warming Huts Competition
Competition proposal Warming Hut v.2016 Competition, Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail, Winnipeg, Canada
with Laura Belotti architect
An engaging experience inspired by the Primitive inhabitants of Winnipeg: Indian tribes once relying mainly on bison’s fur to warm themselves in harsh winters.
A sculptural organic installation as a new conceived warm hut where the visitor is filled with unusual soft materialities in contrast with the rigidity of the frozen river landscape. Prismatic benches set in circle, recalling a primordial form of aggregation as the most natural arrangement around the fire.
Natural colored ropes are braided through structural metal grid of the seating to evoke the fury mantle of the local bisons once living in the surroundings. These hairy couches are set facing each other so that visitors are easily invited to have conversations.
An open air meeting place where skaters are encouraged to interact with the seating area beeing embraced by a warm unexpected macro-fur.
