Vecchia Corato
The building with an exclusive residential use, was made in a wide expansion area in the south of the town of Bisceglie.
Its volume, arranged in a cross to the highway (via Vecchia Corato), occupies a space characterized by the presence of Mediterranean Pine trees, the last track of a country lodge built in the nineteenth century outside the city walls. One of the goals of the project was to safeguard the existing trees and give them back to the enjoyment of the new users. The access to the four aligned stairwells, that make up the building (for a total of 40 rooms of various sizes), takes place through the garden which can be used from the large double height portal in the middle of the building.
On the North facade there are only bedrooms and bathrooms in order to improve the indoor comfort and to guarantee the passive conditioning of the rooms. On the south side, the convex front towards the garden joins the stairwells and kitchens volumes to the lodges overlooking the living rooms of the houses according to the best tradition of ‘Italian home’ . The floors on the North side have large outdoor terraces whose outer walls create the building stone basement along which the access to the parking basement is located.
