The project is a renovation of an apartment for a young couple with a child and a lively cat in Grosseto. The intervention, besides having secured a different distribution of the internal spaces, has permitted to add a new room, bathroom and studio, leaving unchanged the volume of the apartment. Although the use of oak wood, stoneware-porcelain grey and white plaster in various rooms makes the space more homogeneous, it appears at the same time different in all its aspects, depending on how these materials have been used. The apartment, althought at first glance seems without elements, conceals many spaces such as cabinets, closets or storage compartments.
The apartment is divided into a living area and a sleeping area, which consist of a living room and a kitchen, and three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Entering you feel immediately the clean lines of the space and the contrast of wooden elements with white walls and grey porcelain stoneware floor. The main hall of the living area, connected directly to the entrance and the corridor, has as main furnishing elements a large sofa that dominates the central space and a dining table in oak. Inside it there is also a small studio that seems to be hiding behind a full height bookcase, opening on both sides and creating a filter between the two ambiences. Entering in the kitchen, is instantly evident the contrast between the various used materials; wall units, different kitchen accessories and storage seem also to be hiding in the walls of the apartment.
The living area is separated from the sleeping area by a big door pivot, also in oak, which thanks to its particular openness is able to create a special dynamism between the two spaces. In the bedrooms it has been maintained the existing floor (herringbone parquet) so as to preserve a warm and comfortable ambience. A custom furniture integrated perfectly with the style of the house was also designed for the main bedroom. Especially in this room have been realized ambiences that at first glance aren’t perceived, such as a large walk-in closet and a compartment in the countertop. The same effect was achieved also in the bathroom connected to the main bedroom, where the ceramic green mosaic envelops the shower and sanitary. The main bathroom, used also by guests, is directly connected to the corridor and being completely covered in stoneware, porcelain (such as floor), creates a homogeneous space that brings out the colour of the wood. The sink rests directly on a wooden shelf, while the shower seems to become one with the floor, just like in the bathroom of the bedroom. Overall, the quality of materials and the right exposure of the apartment, are making it comfortable in any month of the year.
