BRERA APARTMENT
LOCATION:
The Project area is located in Brera District, which is one of the most famous districts in the center of Milan, Italy. The District of Brera consist of remarkable
examples to the Milanese apartment typologies and gives a good example to the contemporary life style in Milan.
The Location of the apartment is on Corso Garibaldi, in a typical dense building with a size of approx. 30sqm. The existing situation of the house has a proportional
problem to connect the functions and the use of the area is minimized. The potential use of the natural light is omited.
The aim of the project is to create a space that includes the contemporary functions to host different types of activities by using the furnishings also as a partition
element. Depending on the user requirements, combination of full-private or semi-private areas can be created with these elements to give a maximum
flexibility.
Maximum space optimization makes compact functional elements, leaving more free and open spaces as the view of the green space which the house is
facing. Silence and the light coming from the garden, positively effects the use of the space compared to the internal areas of the busy center of the Brera district.
SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION / FLEXİBİLİTY:
Perceptions inside the home can be changed according to the perspective in which the user is immersed; making it an extension of the feelings and the mood.
The house ensures maximum functional comfort with a double movement, one that can open spaces and the atmosphere towards the external landscape and
the other can connect internal perceptions home environment, to become a tool to create and make evident relations.
The sleeping area is composed of two distinct areas on the height: the real alcove with a height of 125 cm and a multifunctional free area in the side of the
window. This free area can be incorporated with the living area and creates a bigger area for eating or to relaxing. Alternatively, if partitions are properly
closed between this area and the alcove, and between this area and the living room, it creates a third space to be used for silent activities or multipurpose
functions.
The table and chairs are the only furnitures that can be moved, depending on the needs, can become alternately space or room, or an office-relaxing area.
LIGHT:
The maximum use of the natural light is provided from two large windows after the demolition of the seperation wall which was minimizing the use of natural
light.
The main artficial light is provided from fluorescent lights which positioned according to the different possibilities of use of the space.
The lights are chosen very narrow light cones, so they give a lighting point exactly on the required area.
As a support to the main lighting, some controllable plugs have been prepared for the application of vertical lightning on the floor, to offer a warm light
when it is necessary.
COLOR:
From the point of view of color finishes, the color of the walls tend to follow and reinforce the differences in quality of different private spaces, from light to
darker color tones from the public spaces through the private spaces.
The small size of the apartment, led to the use of light colors and natural finishes. Domestic space is clear and ordered according to logical function. And it is able to accommodate different elements, even discordant, to use as personalization (colorful chairs, books, elements of vegetation) but the overall atmosphere is compromised.
