ForMigas
Set in the heart of the City Park at Guimarães (2012 European Capital of Culture), this new structure is a complement to the original restaurant.
Developed by the local studio afdf.arquitectos of Pedro Vaz Macedo, the premisses for the space were based on the idea of creating a winter garden adding quality surroundings to quality food. With broad windows and skylights, allowing the complete flow of light into the space, the restaurant is a serene and down-to-earth space, designed to enjoy the nearby park.
Built with an iron frame and coated in varnished iroko wood and glass, the new block is a lightweight semi-cantilevered box, opened to the park. All the window and door frames are in iron, designed by the studio. The window panels slide into the pinewood walls transforming the space in a completly open area in the summer.
Dominated by a massive fan, backgrounded with a custom openable wood-blade system, that offers dynamic to the 70 squared meter room, the interior is a symbiosis between glass and portuguese pinewood.
The furniture, tables and balconies, are custom made, and allow the room to evolve from a sushi-based restaurant during the day to a cosy cocktail bar at night, with fewer tables as they can be stored all together in a small area, due to their design.
The project is set to be a trendy spot for locals and visitors, combining new thoughts on architecture and design of the citys’ recreation spaces.
