Lighthouse
"Königsberg sul Pregel is an example of a big city, with main local councils and universities, in the centre of a Nation. It is the right place for men kind's knowledge's development, fulfilled without the need of traveling around the world”. I. Kant, Pragmatic Anthropology
The Lighthouse bases its design on the issues discussed by German philosopher Immanuel Kant in his Pragmatic Anthropology. He felt that the ancient Königsberg on Pregel would be the perfect place for the development of man kind's knowledge. The Lighthouse project wants to underline this concept.
The project's theme is the opportunity to overcome the historical and political obstacles while defining a new beginning for the City.
Our aim is to develop an architecture work capable to be seen as an additional layer to the city’s history, where the past statas are conserved. These, new and old together, define the past and the futue of Kaliningrad. The original design completes the building with a huge lighthouse, a powerful landmark to which the surroundings can be dimensionally compared. The Lighthouse becomes an example for every architect, who - if willing to work with the existing site and its history - has the chance to give new life to it. Only by understanding the inner values hidden in the past, it is possible to establish new coherent balances.
