The 10,000 sqm trade fair pavilion stands next to the Vega scientific and technological park, in the ex-industrial Porto Marghera zone. It occupies a key position, at the beginning of Freedom Bridge along the road-rail axis to Venice. The area faces the Brentelle canal and the pavilion can also be reached by water. The structure is raised and sits on an extensive parking slab. Its symmetrical form is generated by softly curved intersecting rays and is outwardly defined by a white aluminium cladding laid to produce a pleated effect. The main entrance is located next to the roundabout that sorts traffic between via Pacinotti and via Ferraris. A white porch, formed by a tensile structure, leads to the wood-clad central stairs and two lateral escalators leading to the exhibition floor. Opening inside is a single large hall characterised by the white spatial grid frame of the ceiling supported by just four pillars. The free and flexible exhibition space can host multiple events simultaneously. The walls are faced in acoustic wood.
Built for Aquae Venezia 2015, the exhibition dedicated to water concurrently with Expo Milan 2015, the building remains at the city’s disposal for fairs and exhibitions, cultural and sports events.
