Wuthering garden. Festival Internacional de Jardins, Ponte de Lima
"Water in the garden" is the protagonist of the scene and takes on the appearance of a strong natural force that sculpts and shapes the matter.
The aim of the project is to create a “wuthering garden”: a fragment of an adrifted landscape emerging from water's surface, sculpted into a motionless geometry and lapped by a moving "storm " of waves and splashes. The first impression, in the wuthering garden, is to be on the edge of a cliff, made up with geometric elements that evoke the analogy between forms shaped by nature and man-made architectural ones.
Here Nature becomes Architecture: the "rocks" become modular elements (60 cm x 60 cm) in three different colors and heights (15/30/45 cm). Each element can be a seat or a flowerpot, and helps to create a vertical and mutable landscape in which the visitor can interact, going up the stairs and watching the space from different points of view.
Herbaceous species emerge from the rocks recalling waves' movement. The ruffle habit and the blue-green tones of their thin leaves want to remember the color of the sea.
At the entrance of the garden you can find a pebble "sea", like the ground of a river, and an irregular path that allows to have a different perception of the cliff depending on where you are.
The reef that rises from the sea, consists of wood elements in different colors according to their height. Some of these become flower pots, others are steps on which you can sit down or go up to observe the space from different points of view.
The visitor is also wrapped by a sky full of thundery clouds, made of wire mesh and suspended with steel cables into a perimeter structure, from which originates a foggy atmosphere on the entire surface of the garden.
