Kjellander + Sjöberg's proposal Rosendal is full of character and unlike anything else.
K + S has focused on surfaces, commercial units, the courtyard and the urban spaces that are used in quotidian yet innovative ways for multi-family housing in the city. The aim is to offer a block with a high sense of community - a welcoming context facilitating for good "neighbourliness"- from day one. K + S believes that the demand for unconventional forms of accommodation is great, where one has access to additional activities, contexts and functions beyond the own dwelling. Such as a joinery and workshop in the courtyard, a greenhouse on the roof, a space where you can repair your bike or paint your kitchen table. A space to have a flea market, host a crayfish-party or rabbit jumping contest; all in a green, recreational and generous setting, framed by apple trees and berry bushes.
A varied range of residential buildings in solid timber offers a warm tangible materiality. The buildings will have an innovation and sustainability-oriented perspective, environmentally certified and with a low ecological footprint, both at an initial stage as well as over the course of their lifetime. The contractor and K + S will work together to promote an environment that offers a sustainable lifestyle, with low energy and passive-house standards, while creating spaces which facilitate for social meetings and a sharing economy. Green roofs and the green urban courtyard offer an opportunity to treat rainwater as a resource, in detention and for cultivation and play. By focusing on pedestrian and cyclist aspects and by minimizing garage spaces, large trees can be planted in the space.
The proposal Woodhouse won the Uppsala Municipality's land transfer competition for the block A1 adjacent to the area's new and most central square, Halltorget. The developer Diligentia along with the architectural practice Kjellander + Sjöberg, URBIO landscape architects, Aton Technology & energy consultants and RENEWINN timber consultants, have developed concepts for 100 innovative rental housing units of various scales and contents, ranging from townhouses to the square's urban scale of 5-6 storeys.
