Learning from slums is to understand their conformation. Innovation today is to comprehend the disorder of the past. It’s the way to translate the variety and the spontaneity of the forms, trying to get their complexity.
The problem analysed is the phenomenon of the Ilhas in Portugal, a product of a speculative operation. The shapes, which result from that, are linked with their content. Disorder is the
new order, there’s no plan in the slums.
There’s only the necessity to function. Answering the needs of the population, we chose to make the intervention on roof-level; establishing a new system linked with the pre-existent and maintaining the balance of the already composed area.
Our idea it’s only a possible proposal. It’s a concept of future program organization. It’s not formal; it wants to be an example of the infi nity of possibilities. It can’t be planned, it will just happen.
