KUEHN MALVEZZI conceived the conversion of a backyard workshop into a gallery space as a mediation between the city and the exhibition exploring the boundaries between private and public space. A sequence of thresholds leads the visitor from the street through historic courtyards to the new location of the gallery. Starting right at the entrance, a two-level bench runs along the length of the wall and creates a public place that invites visitors to rest, contemplate and to converse while it also acts as a filter between the exhibition and the gallery office.
