COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE CENTER
The abandoned building was a former store, situated in the heart of the community of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek in Brussels.
The building was in very bad condition and in need of renovation.
In the 1980’s, concrete columns and beams where integrated in this city house in order to have an open interior without bearing walls.
The doctor cabinets and facilities for patients are grouped on the ground floor. (wheelchair accessible) The installation of an elevator and its costs could be avoided this way.
On the ground floor we find, starting from front to the back of the building : the reception desk & waiting room, an archive with an study room on top of it and 4 doctor cabinets with toilets.
On top of the doctor cabinets is a green roof, which serves as outdoor picnic area, next to the dining area for the employees & doctors.
The different hallways and the implementation of the windows in the upper part of the walls assure light and privacy.
In the center of the building is a staircase that leads to the areas for the employees and the apartment of the concierge on the top floor. The hallways and walls serve as vessels that guide the visitors throughout the building.
