Qinmo Community Center
After the creation of Qinmo Primary School, the village’s old courtyard school building became vacant and unused. This project is a part of the Qinmo Village Development.
It involves the renovation of the establishment into a community center and demonstration eco-household. The new program includes a meeting room, dormitory, large dining area, communal kitchen and office space.
The center is used by villagers as a place to host eco-workshops and volunteers. The demonstration household farm includes pigs and chickens, a greenhouse and a selection of vegetables.
Expertise in setting up the farm came from staff of Kadoorie farms in Hong Kong. This old school establishment has now transformed into an active community centre that not only provides physical space for the village’s social activities, but also educational opportunities through its scholarship programs.
The old and new school are architectural settings that facilitate social engagement and knowledge exchange.
By promoting sustainable and holistic agricultural practices, the village can incrementally renew an interest in rural productivity while at the same time further educational possibilities for the younger generation, providing them alternatives to the mass exodus to cities.
