The last glimmer of a fading legend, or a district in mutation: Ester Bruzkus and Patrick Batek reflect the vicissitudes of Rosenthaler Platz’s urban structure in their redesign of the former Delicious Doughnuts premises. At DEAN they have created a glamorous dance bar for an international audience with a maturity that goes beyond that old makeshift-Berlin-look, but that still suits the Berlin nightlife.
Like the symbiosis of Berlin Mitte – both old and new – DEAN is gray on the outside but surprisingly glamorous inside. Behind the coal-black entrance, an elegant bar shimmers beneath a glittering gold ceiling. The floor is black mastic asphalt; the walls are of dark timber and mirrored slats. Guests are guided, as if on a catwalk, along the length of the black marble bar to the dance floor, past soft seating in niches clad with dark-gray velvet – a perfect place to indulge in the excellent DEAN cocktails. And while the guests move towards the music, golden lights pulse above them in sync with the beat. Behind the dance floor, the lounge with its mirror slats offers drinks in a cool, relaxed atmosphere.
A mirrored staircase leads down to the wardrobes and toilets – and to a DJ responsible for the lounge feeling here. In DEAN, part of the AMANO Group, you can party through until the early hours of the morning.
