Set Designer Shizuka Hariu realized scenography installation for Saiko Kino’s choreography for The Place Prize, 2008 in London.
The dark performance space describes a schizophrenic character. The scenography, very simple and discreet, reflects the ambience of a Japanese spooky story by creating shadow effects on the body, the public and private space, in the darkness of the theatre.
The scenography consists of a Koshi; a latticed work sliding shutters composition which is traditionally found on the façade of Japanese housing. The performance creates an abstract narrative based on the mysterious beauty of the play between light and shadow expressed through the choreography, which is transformed in the movements.
