Mogan Mountain Yucun Culture Market, Silkworm Hatchery Renovation
The renovation of Mogan Mountain silkworm hatchery partly reflects the extension of private capital to towns and villages. The site was a deserted silkworm hatchery. To achieve urban-rural interaction, the developer wants to reuse this abandoned site, reviving the space by turning it into a commercial area. The surrounding buildings are expected to be renovated step by step.
As an initiating strategy, the designer decided to build a series of ‘Bamboo Shelters’ to integrate the scattered outer spaces, turning these formerly random and negative areas into open markets, which could be served as the starting points for the further development.
These Shelters were built by locally produced bamboo, adopting simple yet effective traditional building techniques.
The temporary strategies applied here are deeply rooted in the commercial developing agendas.
