the Bridge of Science.
The former industrial area of the Ostiense neighborhood , nestled between the Tiber River, and the way called "Ostiense" (that arrives from Ostia), characterized by the presence of large industrial plants decommissioned , it appears as a large " gap " within the urban fabric of the consolidated city .
Design a bridge in that place meant , first and foremost , restore the link with the rest of the surrounding quarters were (Marconi , Ostiense , Testaccio )it sew a sprain caused by the arrest of the time. The relationship with the place is , in fact, established by identifying matches to reveal an emotional perception , a character,a presence rather than a more or less direct reference .
The intention behind the design of the project is to look for to preserve and make clear this character denied , forgotten .
The idea that time has stopped and that this area safeguards a time "other" than the one you live every day , gives considerable interest and value to the design of the bridge of Science.
The bridge , then , symbolically and physically is the means to mend the gap and find the link with the time that you thought was lost.
Regain the time lost through time found in the sense of the present time .
The subjects of the place were the subject of the project.
The Bridge of Science was created by joining two structural concepts :
that of the cantilever beam by a triangle, the so-called crutch , and that of the central girder leaning post with external voltage .
The bridge, with an overall length of 147 m, consists of two crutches, which act as supports on the banks of the river and provide constraint deformable the entire structure , the two crutches are equipped with a rush of different light in the middle of the bridge, a ribbed slab prestressed and post- tensioned.
On the two structures crutch lateral prestressing is applied by steel cables harmonic , while we expect to achieve the pontic Central with external prestressing steel cables using viplati .
A ramp with long steps allows to ascent from the bank of the river to the road named V. Gassman above.
