Arkadia - Apartment Building
Nominated Mies van der Rohe 2015 award
Goztepe is a neighbourhood in the southern Asian side of Istanbul near the water facing the sea of Marmara. The neighbourhood is a densely arranged fabric of isolated towers that nevertheless face each other in close proximity. The client has asked IND to design the envelope and the landscape of a new tower. The faÂcade result is a modular tertiary system made in metal and plastics that through its frames brings to the exterior a subtle reading of the structure of the building while allowing to break this regularity with a more free arrangement of windows in-between the structure. A prefab wood panel with vertical strips contrast with the smoothness of the aluminium and the glass. The slender facÂade where the living rooms are positioned is made highly transparent. The landscape extends the modular philosophy into patches of grass, stone and water.
