This modern extension to a Grade II listed farmhouse creates a double height entertaining space, gallery library and modern family kitchen.
The extension is located on the North side of the farmhouse and replaces an unsympathetic, semi-derelict extension. As is the case with many old farmhouses natural light is limited with the small windows and deep walls. The use of high level glazing allows natural light to enliven the spaces.
The fully glazed wall, punctured with large Oak doors opens to a private courtyard. Here the layering of materials delightfully defines the threshold. An exposed steel beam and columns with carefully detailed junctions is articulated away from the glazing and the external stone floor is taken into the building again creating both a visual and physical connection to the garden.
The limited palette of quality natural materials create a simple yet rich environment, complimenting the listed farm house
