OFFICE BUILDING, ADIDAS HEADQUARTERS
World of Sports International Competition - Stage V, Office West
CHANGE ENVIRONMENT, CHANGE WORK :
The quality of work is closely linked to its environ¬ment. We are aware that workplace conditions concentration and inspiration. This project for the West offices of the Adidas World of Sports organizes a geography of different atmospheres and climates fitted to bring about encounters, maximize talks and stimulate creativity.
Rather than just arranging thematic spaces within a large building, we bank on architecture’s ability to generate a variety of indoor and outdoor ambiances. We propose to dis¬seminate the offices in the site and open them to landscape.
CHOOSE - Bespoke ambiances
Work organization is evolving at high speed. Our project creates several types of environments and climates to meet the needs of users, both on a short and long-term vision.
Formal meetings, recreational activities or creative work : every occupant is invited to choose the most suitable atmosphere in terms of light, acoustics, hygrothermy and degree of privacy.
The organization of the teams in the building becomes a geographic and climatic one. We emphasize on users’ free¬dom of choice and mobility according to the task at hand. Our architecture puts the body in motion and offers a variety of horizons to stimulate creativity and productivity. Here is a range of the different ambiances our project offers to the body and the mind of future occupants.
6 DIFFERENT WORK ECOLOGIES
« MOVE ! » – Crossed storeys
The building coils office floors to create three rings of different diameters and thicknesses. The largest ring is organized on a width of 18 meters. Workspaces can be installed on both side of a central space. The other two rings are finer. They have a width of 15 and 12 meters to maximize the flexibility of their organization. These 3 office types are connected to create an infinite loop, without dead-ends, inviting to mobility. Teams or units can be moved in a very simple and flexible way, by sliding them through the rings.
Office floors are suspended in a pine forest. Large full height windows erase the boundary between the inside and the outside. You get the feeling of working in the trees.
« MEET ! » – Vertical hubs
Floors intersect at the heart of the facility to create a strong interaction venue. This venue connects the 3 office rings and links up the 4 levels. It also gives access to 3 patios. Hubs are located at this strategic crossroad point.
Here, the 4 floors of the building are drilled with large circular holes where waterfall stairs invite people to movement and exchange. Organizing the flow, this is also a place of life, emulation, relaxation, informal work and meetings for the different units. Circular openings shift from one floor to another in order to multiply views and let the overhead light penetrate to the ground level. Generous stairs of 2.50 meter-wide invite employees to linger for a casual conversation or sit to make a phone call.
« PLAY ! » – Pop-up spaces
Pop-up spaces are bow-window volumes grafted in the office floor. They are spacious and bright circular rooms. They overhang from the facade and offer panoramic views on the outside. They punctuate the office space and are designed for informal or collaborative work. They can accommodate multiple uses, such as rest areas, creative areas or team areas.
Projected in the landscape, those bubbles allow occupants to move aside from the big shared space. Pop-up spaces are aimed to ensure a balance between collective uses and individual needs.
« CREATE » – Start-up valley
In the North-East edge of the site, the “start-up valley” gathers 9 independent ground-floor pavilions installed in a densely wooded landscape. These independent units are designed to accommodate small creative teams. Scattering between tree trunks, their small size breaks with the scale of the main building.
This typology of independent pavilions reinterprets the specific dynamics of start-ups. They provide separate facilities from the main building where creativity, inventiveness and emulation of the teams can be unleashed. These pavilions are equipped with kitchens and room-studios for full independence.
« FOCUS » – Meeting hill
In the South of the site, at the top of the hill formed by the natural slope, 3 prestigious rooms are grouped around a belvedere square. These rooms are aimed to organize meetings outside the main building, such as specific seminars or boards of directors. These pavilions are organized on one level.
« REVITALIZE » – Relaxing points
Both at the heart of the facility and scattered throughout the park, relaxing points are places to withdraw oneself from the crowd. They provide an environment in contrast with office spaces. One might engage in sports, or enjoy a quiet moment. In the building, they are mainly located in the vertical hubs.
In the park, these relaxing points are an extension of the interior furniture design. They are platforms made of granite or concrete. Attached to the main promenade, they offer spaces apart to play, eat and work outside, alone or with others.
